"A fine writing instrument could be upwards of 1,000 rupees. That is what we define as a fine writing instrument. Lot of pens that we carry, are hand crafted and that's what makes them expensive," said Nikhil Ranjan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), William Penn, Pen Store, Mumbai. (shows 10)

A designer pen can cost anywhere from Rs 1,000 to Rs 900,000. Many of these pens are hand crafted and hence so expensive and exclusive. They are an amalgamation of modern technology and art. Today the pens have become perfect accessories to flaunt one's style and status in society.

According to estimates in 2007, the market for pens in the world is around Rs 500 billion against Rs 1.5 billion in India alone.
