INTRO: Indian PM visits China for first time in five years. India's prime minister visits Beijing in a gesture of friendship between the world's two most populous nations. 


STORY: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Beijing on Sunday (January 13) to begin an official visit to China.  Singh will spend three days in Beijing where he will meet with China's leaders, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and President Hu Jintao. 

This will be Singh's first visit to China, and the first official visit from an Indian prime minister in five years. China and India have been at odds over border disputes in the Himalayan region for over 50 years. Competition for resources of energy and water also keeps the two Asian heavyweights apart.
