(Knut and his friends)〞

(Knut and his friends)〞的首映會上,也公開宣布德國國內另一頭小北極熊誕生的消息。

INTRO: Knut's life on big screen.  Germany's most famous polar bear, Knut, get his own movie but misses premiere.

STORY: The main actor in Germany's latest movie "Knut and his friends" had to miss the film's premiere in Berlin on Sunday (March 2) and was instead forced to stay behind bars. "Knut And His Friends" tells the true story of a little polar bear cub born at Berlin Zoo which soon after its birth was rejected by the mother.

Zoo keepers decided Knut would be hand-reared and not just the little polar bear but also its keeper Thomas Doerflein rose to stardom. Doerflein, who plays the second most prominent role in the movie, attended Sunday's premiere and tried to tell reporters that Knut "is a normal polar bear just like any other polar bear, except that right now he is totally focused on humans."

Knut grabbed global media attention in early 2007 after animal rights campaigners said hand-rearing polar bears was a violation of animal rights. German media at the time interpreted the situation as a call for Knut to be put to sleep, but Berlin Zoo said the animal would not be put down or left to fend for itself.

In March 2007, then 3-month-old Knut had its debut in front of of cameras and the public. Soon, huge queues formed outside Berlin Zoo as Germany continued to be gripped by "Knut-fever". Hundreds flocked to see the zoo's latest and most famous addition and international coverage of Knut's first outing turned into a media circus,  with several television stations reporting live.

The film's premiere coincided with the announcement late last week of another polar bear birth at a German Zoo. Stuttgart Zoo until Friday (February 29) kept secret the arrival of a polar bear cub born two months ago out of fear of provoking another "polar bear hysteria," as Stuttgart Zoo called it.
